Climate activists disrupt Christie’s auction in New York

Protesters representing Extinction Rise up, the UK-founded environmentalist organisation, disrupted the Impressionist and fashionable works on paper sale at Christie’s in New York on 11 November. Two protesters within the viewers took to the podium shouting “no artwork on a useless planet”, whereas would-be bidders and specialists seemed on.

The auctioneer, Christie’s deputy chairman Tash Perrin, was unable to proceed with bidding, leaving the podium till safety eliminated the protesters, later recognized as Mun Chong and Jim Hicks.
