UMass Dartmouth Commencement Speaker Gives Grads $1000 Each

The perfect graduation speeches are sometimes motivational and thought-provoking, leaving new graduates optimistic as they head into the “actual world.”

However for the Class of 2024 on the College of Massachusetts Dartmouth, new grads walked away with greater than only a wealth of information — they left their ceremony with an additional $1,000 of their pockets.

Final week, the founder and CEO of Granite Telecommunications, Robert Hale Jr., spoke to grads on the College of Massachusetts Dartmouth about their futures and shared a narrative a few time when his enterprise suffered a $1 billion loss in simply at some point to elucidate the significance of perseverance by means of failure.

“It is okay to fail,” Hale informed graduates. “Life offers you challenges and when you take these challenges you will fail every now and then — don’t be concerned about it … do not worry failure, perceive that it is simply a part of the method, and when you use that worry of failure to inspire your self, you will be higher for it.”

Then, as he wrapped up, he shocked the viewers by saying he was giving every graduate graduate $1,000 — however there was a catch.

“These attempting instances have heightened the necessity for sharing, caring, and giving,” Hale informed college students. “Our neighborhood wants you and your generosity greater than ever.”

The scholars got two envelopes with $500 every — one was meant for the scholars to maintain for themselves whereas the opposite was for them to provide to another person in want.

“Because the diploma conferral was about to start, Hale got here ahead and let the graduates know he had yet one more bit of recommendation for them. He informed the keen crowd that for him and his spouse Karen, ‘the best joys we have had in our life have been the reward of giving,'” UMass Dartmouth stated in a launch. “Hale let the Class of 2024 know that the 2 giant duffle baggage being introduced up on stage by safety had been full of envelopes full of money.”

There have been roughly 1,200 college students in UMass Dartmouth’s 2024 graduating class.

Hale’s present web value is an estimated $5.4 billion.
