Richard Serra, one of many best artists of the previous 50 years, a linchpin of the post-minimalist scene in late Nineteen Sixties and early Seventies New York and later the creator of huge metal ellipses and spirals, died on Tuesday 26 March. We mark the passing of this titan of sculpture with Donna De Salvo, the senior adjunct curator of particular tasks on the Dia Basis, whose Dia Beacon area has a number of main works by Serra on everlasting view.
There are a number of exhibitions specializing in Expressionist artwork within the US and Europe in 2024 and on this episode we deal with two of them. The primary ever Käthe Kollwitz retrospective in New York is happening on the Museum of Trendy Artwork or MoMA, whereas different exhibits devoted to her are happening in Frankfurt and Stockholm. We converse to Starr Figura, the curator of MoMA’s present, which opens this weekend, about Kollwitz’s extraordinary work and life.
Then, we speak to Natalia Sidlina, the curator of Expressionists: Kandinsky, Münter and the Blue Rider, a significant survey opening at Tate Trendy subsequent month of the German Expressionist group, which appears to be like anew on the deep friendships that fashioned the premise of the group, their worldwide outlook and their multidisciplinary output.
