Death of New York dealer Brent Sikkema in Brazil being investigated as a homicide

Brent Sikkema, who based the Manhattan gallery Sikkema Jenkins & Co, was discovered lifeless in Rio de Janeiro on Monday (15 January), in keeping with Brazilian media studies. Sikkema was 75. Sikkema Jenkins & Co confirmed his demise in an announcement.

Sikkema was born in 1948 and raised in Illinois. After relocating to New York Metropolis in 1981, he co-founded a recent artwork gallery in Soho, then referred to as Wooster Gardens. The gallery moved to Chelsea in 1999 and later modified its title to Sikkema Jenkins & Co.

Sikkema Jenkins & Co is one among New York’s most outstanding galleries, and notably represents Jeffrey Gibson, who will symbolize the US at this 12 months’s Venice Biennale. The gallery has additionally labored with artists like Sheila Hicks, Vik Muniz, Kara Walker, Maria Nepomuceno and Louis Fratino.
